8 Summer Beauty Mistakes That Are Ruining Your Skin (And How To Avoid Them)

After what felt like a long and dreary winter, the sun has finally made an appearance! Proper skincare is most important in the summer thanks to humidity, heat, chlorine, and the sun. Avoid these common mistakes and have your skin healthy, glowing and protected all summer long!

1. Not Wearing Sunscreen

This may feel like a no-brainer, but skipping sunscreen is one of the most common summer (and winter, for that matter) skincare mistakes. It should be worn every single day, all year round. Try out Luxe Day Cream SPF 30 as a base moisturizer that includes essential SPF coverage.

2. Not Reapplying SPF

Make sure to always reapply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every 60 to 90 minutes while you are out in the sun. At the beach or pool, sunscreen should also be reapplied every tim you get out of the water.

3. Thinking Your Makeup Doubles as SPF

Even if your foundation or BB cream contains SPF, you must still wear sunscreen with it.

4. Exfoliating in the Morning

While exfoliating your skin is the key to healthy, smooth, dewy skin, you should only exfoliate at night. That layer of dead skin cells acts as a layer of protection from UV rays. Use our Miracle Mask x2 per week in the evenings for a refreshing, hydrated complexion.

5. Waxing, Shaving, or Lasering Before the Beach

Often last-minute thoughts, waxing, laser hair removal, and shaving can often lead to some serious skin irritation from the sun, sunscreen, and sand. With shaving and waxing, it’s best to give yourself 24 to 48 hours. For lasering, wait at least 10 days before sun exposure.

6. Not Switching Out Your Cleanser

You should switch out heavy cleansers and moisturizers for lighter formulations. Try cleansing with our gentle Micellar Gel Cleanser, followed by our Swiss Glacier Tonic for deep clean feeling.

7. Not (Properly) Washing Your Face After a Day at the Beach

Make sure you cleanse your skin after a long day outside in the sand and water. If you can’t reach a restroom for several hours to get a thorough rinse, bring along cleansing wipes to remove any dirt and debris from the day and follow with a moisturizing SPF.

8. Not Using Moisturizer

Summer usually means humidity, but that doesn’t mean it’s OK to skip out on moisturizer. Make sure to keep your skin hydrated even if you feel a little oilier during the summer months. Try our 24h Intensive Cream to stay hydrated all day long.
